That day when Adam and Eve sinned in Eden, was the darkest day in all of humankind’s history. However, in God’s great mercy, He cursed neither the man nor the woman directly. Though The Fall occurred through the disobedience of both Adam and Eve, God still placed the brunt of the curse on the snake, or Satan, and the rest of creation. Because God loves humankind so much, He even protected them, (to a great extent), from the consequences of their sin, (Jn. 3:16-17.) To this day God’s innocent creation still has to bear the brunt of humankind’s disobedience: Gen. 3:17b, Rom. 8:19-22. Instead of cursing the woman directly, God warned her against the consequences of her sin, as well as the particular enmity between her and the devil. As she would bring the Saviour into the world in centuries to come, the evil one would fix his attention on her especially. The first manifestation of Satan’s hostility was the wrong interpretation of God’s prophetic warning in Gen. 3:16: “Unto the woman He said, I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; [through your disobedience you have done this to yourself; because sin has now became flesh in humankind, sickness and pain will also infest the human body], in sorrow you shall bring forth children; [The Fall will work destruction in your human relationships as well; from now on your children will be disobedient, ungrateful and unmanageable], your desire shall be to your husband and he shall rule over you, [because you moved your desire for Me to your husband, thereby scrambling your priorities, his sinful nature will cause him to lord over you. He will rule you with an iron fist and be the boss of you instead of loving you].” [Read about the loving covenant between marriage partners.] Our mixed priorities - desiring the favour and acceptance of humans, instead of desiring the acceptance of God - is the main reason for the physical-, emotional- and spiritual abuse that we suffer: Gal. 1:10. God commanded us to fix our attention wholeheartedly on Him: Ex. 20:1-6. If we truly submit to God and make Him our highest priority and our first love, directing our total obedience towards Him, no relationship would ever entrap us to become the passive slaves of those who mistreat and abuse us simply because they are in the position to do so: Mt. 22:37-39. We should carefully and prayerfully choose all of our relationships. If we allow a relationship, whether it be our parents, spouses, children or friends, to force us into rejecting or neglecting God, we are actually preferring - and thereby serving - an idol that is controlled by Satan. A foreign god that will ultimately destroy us on every human level: Mt. 10:37; 1 Cor. 15:33; Eph. 5:10-11; 1 Cor. 7:11-16; Ex. 20:1-5. Spirit Filled Bible, p. 9: “[Through The Fall] there will be a major marring of her appointed roles as wife and mother… (Note that this speaks of the woman’s role in God’s SPECIFIC PLAN, her home. It does not pertain to her role in God’s UNIVERSAL PLAN, which is secular society.) “He shall rule over you,” asserts the divine assignment of the husband’s servant-leader role. There is no evidence that this was ever intended as a diminishing of the wife’s person or giftedness, but rather as a redemptive role assigned to the husband toward the wife as a means toward reinstating the original partnership. It does not assert male dominance over females. It does assign husbandly responsibility for leadership in the marriage relationship.” Theologians utterly misinterpreted the words “he shall rule over you”. It is not enough that they twisted God’s warning regarding Eden’s broken marriage-relationship; they blatantly changed it to ‘God ordained it so that all men shall lord over all women on every sphere of life.’ They conveniently annulled God’s UNIVERSAL PLAN for both sexes, which was not cancelled by The Fall, and perverted His SPECIFIC PLAN for husbands and wives, which was corrupted, but not negated by The Fall either: Gen. 1:27-28; 3:16-21. Males as well as females lost their position as God’s ruling kings. Both sexes fell from the glory of God. God was not speaking of His UNIVERSAL PLAN, the joint-rule of male and female over His creation, from which He suddenly withdrew the woman. He referred to the way in which sin would desecrate His SPECIFIC PLAN, the family home. God was talking about the marriage relationship. He did not curse all women to a life of abuse and slavery, subjected to all men on every level of existence. In reality God warned humankind that The Fall would drastically damage the marriage relationship. The Fall changed the Godly love of husbands to lust, sinful male-dominance and even misogyny. From that day on sin-infected husbands would oppress and abuse their wives. Not because God ordered it so; because Satan possesses them so. But speaking this great truth in love is not the propagation of any rebellion against God’s house-order, for Eph. 5:22-33 commands: “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For [in the marriage covenant] the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church … Therefore as the church, [which is a spiritual woman], is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands, [not to men in general]…” This subjection is an attitude of mutual respect because “every one of you [husbands] in particular must so love his [own] wife as his own body; and the wife must revere her own husband.” As women possess that same sinful nature, they would obviously play their part in ruining the marriage-relationship. From that day forward fallen womankind would not respect their “own” husbands. Wives would belittle their husbands verbally and strive to sinfully control, manipulate and rule them, and they would turn God’s home-order upside down. Rebellion and a lack of respect for their husbands would destroy their marriages, families and family-finances.
