In the beginning of Genesis, God “created the earth, and the Spirit of God was moving over the…  waters.” And our Creator said: “Let Us, [Father, Son and Holy Spirit], make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness…” – Gen. 1:1-2, 26.

Matthew Henry commented on this verse, “The three [Personhoods] of the [Triune Godhead,] Father, Son, and Holy Spirit consult about [creating mankind] and concur in it, because man, when he was made, was to be dedicated and devoted to Father, Son and Holy Ghost.  Into that great Name we are, with good reason, baptized, [when we sincerely and personally accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord, Savior, and Redeemer, (Jn. 1:12-13; 3:16-17,)] for to that great Name we owe our being.  Let Him rule man Who said, Let Us make man [in Our image.]”

Teaching on the absolute inseparability between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself commanded, “The FIRST of ALL the commandments is: Hear, O Israel, The Lord our God, The Lord is ONE God. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart [or spirit,] with all your soul [or mind,] and with all your [bodily] strength…” (Mark 12:29.)

It is humanly impossible to aptly explain the “ONE GOD,” the Biblical Triune God, for He is Spirit.  Thé Creator, Savior, Redeemer Spirit of His entire universe, according to His written Word — the whole truthful context of the Bible.  Therefore, from our finite human perspective, it would be futile to attempt a detailed analysis of His Omnipotent, Omniscient Personage.  We can only accept by faith that God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are three distinctly separate Personhoods, (not different gods,) yet they are inseparable; therefore they are One: Heb. 11:6; Mt. 28:19; Jn. 4:24.  Should we try to comprehend this incredible Triune mystery with our limited mental capacity, we would either end up with dangerous, unbiblical distortions of the True Biblical Godhead or lapse into complete insanity as so many others, who have dared to define their Almighty Spiritual Creator in human terms.

So, in order to understand that we worship One Triune God and not three separate gods in a trinity, how do we explain the incredible concept of the Biblical Godhead?  The best we can do is to say that, if the sun could represent our limited understanding of God, the sun consists of heat, light and a physical planet, yes?  Yet  heat is not light; light is not heat, and neither can be a physical planet.  One cannot separate the heat, light or the planet from one another and call that the sun.  Similarly, God the Father is not God the Son, nor God the Holy Spirit.  Yet one cannot separate Them from One Another and believe that either One is God.  Together They are One God, the Triune Godhead, the Spirit “without record of father or mother or any ancestral line, neither with beginning of days nor ending of life,” Heb. 7:3.

Paul explained the human incarnation of the man Jesus Christ as follows, “In Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, and you [sincere believers] are [spiritually] complete in Him, Who is the Head of all principality [or spiritual authority] and [spiritual] power,” (Col. 2:9-10.)

Jesus Christ the Son of God is neither an ordinary prophet nor an angel.  All the angels are created beings; Jesus Christ is God Himself, (Heb. 1:1-14.)  God, Who merely took on human form and became a complete man for the purpose of humankind’s redemption and salvation.

John stated in 1:1, “In the beginning, before all time, was the Word, [which is Jesus Christ,] and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself.  He was present originally with God.  All things came into existence through Him; and without Him not even one thing was made that has come into being.”

During the Old Testament age Lord Jehovah, [‘El ‘Elyon, YHWH], spoke to Old Israel through His prophets, but in the New Testament age, God the Father “has spoken to us in the [physical image or human] Person of His Son, Whom He appointed Heir and lawful Owner of all things, also through Whom He created the worlds, [spiritual- and physical worlds], and the reaches of space and the ages of time.  Jesus is the sole, [physical], expression of the glory of God, [because He became a complete human being without laying down His divinity], upholding, maintaining and guiding the universe by His mighty word of power.

“To which of the angels did God [the Father] ever say: You are my [incarnated] Son? Let all the angels of God worship Him.  But to [God] the Son He says: Your throne, O [Jesus] God, is forever and ever and the sceptre of Your kingdom is a sceptre of absolute righteousness…  Therefore [Jesus] God, even Your Godhead, [the Father and the Holy Spirit], has anointed You with the oil of exultant joy above and beyond Your companions.  You, Lord, did lay the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the works of Your hands.  They will perish, but You remain permanently; they will all grow old and wear out like a garment, but You remain the same, and Your years will never end.”  - Heb. 1:1-14; Phil. 2:6-11.

The Holy Spirit is not an impersonal, electrical force either, but God Himself.  Like any other Person, God The Holy Spirit can speak, choose and send out His workers, convince humanity of His Biblical truth and convict them of their lost spiritual condition without a saving knowledge of the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ; build the body of Christ, lead His believers into all truth, give them spiritual gifts; testify to their salvation, adopt them as God’s spiritual children and comfort them in trials and tribulation.  An electrical force has none of these attributes.  As the Holy Spirit is God Himself, we can also lie to Him; quench His work in us and blaspheme against Him: Acts. 13:2-3; Jn. 14: 26; 16:7-14; Rom. 8:14-16; Lu. 12:10; Acts 5:3; 1 Cor. 12:4-11.

Likewise, God the Father, Who is Spirit, (Jn. 4:21-24,) is the Supreme Ruler and Judge of His created universe.  He is called “The Ancient of Days,” Who will judge “in favour of the saints [the sincere believers and followers of the Lord Jesus Christ,] of the Most High…” (Dan. 7:22.)  Yet, He is also “One like the Son of Man, [Jesus Christ,] clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band.  His hair is white as snow, and His eyes are like a flame of fire; His feet like fine brass and if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters.  In His right hand He has seven stars, out of His mouth comes a sharp two-edged sword, [His Word, the Bible,] and His countenance is like the sun shining in its strength… [and He said,] I Am He Who lives, and was dead, and behold, I Am alive forevermore.  And I have the keys of Hades [hell] and of Death…” (Rev. 1:18.)

Our Triune God is indeed ONE GOD!  “To Him Who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, [through the Personage of His incarnated Son Jesus,] and has made us [spiritual] kings and priests to God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever, (Rev. 1:6.)
