If you fellowship where the leaders do not adhere to man-made norms, structures and –forms, I want to shout with joy: Tell everyone where you are and thank God for the privilege to worship Him in truth and in freedom!  But if you are exposed to wells and cisterns, please listen: If you love them, you will tell them the truth.  We cannot remain passive in the face of the abuse of God’s holy truth: Rom. 1:32.  Christ has called us to be His light in the darkness, as well as His salt that counteracts the decay and corruption of our divided earth – Mt. 5:13-16, 1 Cor. 10:21; 2 Cor. 6:14-18.

Even if religion has its meetings under a tree because it cannot afford a temple or church at this stage, its legalistic structure will remain the same, as religion is a spirit.

A heretic, cultic entity that presents itself as the angel of light: 2 Cor. 11:4.

Religion is Satan’s idolatrous counterfeit of God’s spiritual life: Jn. 10:10; 1 Cor. 10:7-22.  The devil is the mastermind of religion, because he was once the holy angel.  He knows how to make lifeless buildings, ceremonies and catechetics appear super-spiritual and Godlike: 2 Tim. 3:1-9.

So, even while religion sits under a tree with its clergyman, its devotees will sing their catechetical songs in the same old spiritually lifeless way.  They will fall asleep during the sermon, not to remember much afterwards.  In their hearts they know they are busy with a religious farce, yet they cling to their organisation in order that their fellow-believers and religious family members may see how devoutly they live.  They can only hope that their religion would buy them eternal life; yet they diligently persevere therein.  In their circles it is the ‘right’ thing to do: 1 Jn. 5:13.

But the spirit of religion will not be satisfied under a tree – unless it is worshiping nature, which is not uncommon.  It may begin under a tree and remain there for a while, but in the end it will always desire a ‘holy’ building to contain its unbiblical, hierarchical clergy, legalistic doctrines, rituals, ceremonies and catechetics.

Religion is always wrapped in a shrine of some sort, a ‘holy place of worship’.

The problem with Christianity is that it never calls its churches “shrines”.

Many believers do not realise that there is not much difference between a Buddhist shrine and a Christian shrine that is revered as “the house of God”.  Consequently, they are unknowingly trapped in religious shrines: Jn. 8:31-32; Prov. 27:5-6.

God told Old Israel in Jer. 3:14-15: “Return, O backsliding children, for I am married to you.  I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and bring you to Zion.  And I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge; [truth, not the doctrines of men], and understanding [of My will].”

Leaders “according to God’s heart” will always desire to personally grow in His whole truth and they will always be eager to do His entire will: 1 Tim. 3; Tit. 1:7-10.

Without bashing sincere, God-given leaders, it remains a fact that a false clergy forms an integral part of idolatrous religion: Mt. 23.  They are the humanly ordained ‘priests’, ‘ministers’ and ‘pastors’ – men [and women] of the ‘cloth’ and ‘collar’ - that function under each other in ranks.  They attempt to imitate the Old Testament’s order of Levitical priests, modelled on a twisted view of New Testament leadership.  They are the hierarchical ‘priesthood’ of all denominations, who teach their dogmas to their members. [See ‘Biblical Leadership’.]

Theoretically, it is possible that some of the religious clergy might be quite sincere in what they do and therefore they do not even realise what they actually live and teach, as they were also indoctrinated according to their doctrines.  Some might even come to know the truth, but voluntarily choose their religion’s lies, because their hierarchy will never allow them to implement what is real: Mt. 23:34-39.

Such have “exercised their evil ways” to such an extent it seems impossible for them to repent: 2 Pet. 2:1-3,14.  An example of this is a clergyman who legalistically enforced the wearing of hats to their meetings.  By some miracle his hierarchy decided that Paul was not speaking of a physical hat in 1 Cor. 11:2-10, yet this one refused to admit even this ‘slight’ error.  His reason? “How can I tell the women that I was lying to them for 40 years?  I’ll rather carry on with the lie than to admit I that was wrong.”

His wife joined in the act by wearing her hat till the day of her death.

One can reason that this was not a ‘serious’ fallacy, since it had nothing to do with their salvation, although this clergy viewed it as such.  But if religious leaders won’t even admit their ‘insignificant’ fallacies, how will they react to their soul-threatening errors?  A lie remains a lie. “Just a little bit of leaven or false teaching leavens or corrupts the whole lump of dough or misleads the whole church!” – 1 Cor. 5:6-7.

Although some of the religious clergy might be sincerely deceived by the doctrines of their idolatrous hierarchy, most of them knowingly present themselves as apostles of light and love, while they secretly rule their members with an iron fist.  They keep their devotees in bondage to their legalistic laws; implementing as tools of control their terrifying, yet non contextual threats from the Bible: 2 Peter 2; Mt. 23; Mal. 3:8-10.

The tendency of the religious clergy to call those who will not adhere to their false doctrines “heretics”, “sects”, or “cults”, is nothing new.  Paul wrote in Acts 24:14: “In accordance with the [true] Way, which they call a heretical, division-producing sect, I worship the God [of truth]…” There are many real heretics, sects and cults, but those who desire to live in the entire truth of God’s Word do not fit in any of these criteria.

In fact, the religious clergy are the ones who slyly pervert the Word in order to control their parishes and to profit themselves, mainly financially: 2 Pet. 2:1-3,14-22.

For that reason heretics, sects and cults can be defined as religious organisations, great or small, that consist of an unbiblical, hierarchical clergy; man-made rituals or ceremonies, and man-made doctrines and catechetics, contained by some shrine, (or a physical ‘house of God’) – Christian idolatry at its best: Ex. 20:1-6; 1 Cor. 10:7-22.

Many of these heretics, sects and cults do not actively worship the devil.

In fact, they feverishly pretend to worship the true God, but the forces behind religious societies originate from Satan; he leads and controls them all.

In case someone says: “Heretics, cultic practises, sects and secret societies do not exist in my church!” Please read on and discover how subtly the death of religion was woven into our everyday, ‘spiritual’ lives.

Christians generally underestimate the awesome power that Satan unleashed through religion - especially Christian religion.  Only a few know that many of their most prominent preachers are actually worshipping the devil in some secret society or another while masquerading as servants of Christ – 2 Ths. 2:7-10; 1 Tim. 3:6-8; 2 Cor. 11:13.

John Rappoport wrote: “The way of the secret society is a way of life…  I use cult and secret societies to mean: Organised [religious] groups that harbour a hidden agenda, whose purpose is to dominate, [use, abuse] and control others… [See Mt. 23:13.] This agenda doesn’t rule out the existence of a merry public face.  In fact, a cult may be doing well in one sphere while destroying life and limb on another front. [All] religions are secret societies [or heretic cults.  And all secret societies are religions.] They have an agenda, which involves controlling their devotees, all their charity-work notwithstanding.  People seek out secret societies and religion to gain freedom from pain and turmoil. [But mostly they join] because the cult uses techniques like brain-washing and mind-control.”

Thus, the Lord Jesus Christ is definitely not a religion.

His followers or sincere disciples are therefore not followers of a religion either.  They adhere to a loving, sincere, and Scripturally obedient relationship with the Father through His indwelling Holy Spirit, and their High Priest and Savior, Jesus Christ.
